Monasterio Monjas Dominicas,
C/Mare de Deu del Roser 2,
Sant Cugat (08174), Barcelona.
Debut Performance of The Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists.
Rising at 06.15.

Morning Sitting at 07.15.

Breakfast at 08.00.
Sr. Nunez the Promoter addressed the timetable for our day, promising that fruit would be made available to the performers at the venue. Orchestra members in the dining room managed to restrain themselves from a spontaneous outbreak of cheering & loud expressions of gratitude. A few considered making a break for the door, hoping to arrive at the venue early & have more fruit for themselves.
Hernan has been a little under the weather, with a cold. Today his pipes have cleared to some degree, he reported.
HN: I feel better today.
RF: Then why do you still look like shit?
That’s what happens when you spend a lot of time hanging around The Gauchos: a coarsening of the nature exhibited in foul language & a lack of sympathy for humanity in general.
This morning’s work:
T’ai Chi down the hill at 09.45.
Gentle Circulating with Section Leader Curt at 10.30.
Personal Alexander meetings with Mariela, without speaking.
A reminder, in respect of keeping our juice for tonight’s performance: speaking is expensive.
Housework at noon, delayed by one hour at the instigation of Sr. Nunez, to allow for Circulating & the acquisition of more venue-fruit.
Dinner at 13.00.

The Laws of Nunez…

… are to be obeyed! Sr. Nunez is our Promoter, and we will do as we are bidden. In recognition of our obedience, we will be given fruit.
The eagle-eyed Diary-visitor may notice that the date on this posting is Feb 28th. 2009 – tomorrow! Perhaps at lunchtime we will learn that The OCG’s debut has been delayed by one day? Is this another example of dealing with an Argentinian promoter?
11.50 Payment for further services rendered to Guitar Craft comes in the form of a better quality of problem.
15.22 Lunch at 13.00.
Sr. Nunez was not setting up The OCG for an unanticipated opportunity & adventure by putting tomorrow’s date on our today-sheet: this was a simple mistake, Sr. Nunez told us at lunch.

Dinner at 17.30.
18.27 Sr. Nunez made 2 practical announcements at dinner.
Guitars are lined up for van-loading. Departure to the venue at 18.45.
00.47 In Sant Cugat this evening, RF & The Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists made their public debut.
Play-on music was compiled from various Soundscapes, mostly performed with various members of the Team present, and some not publicly released. Our sound engineer: George Blackmountain.
The scheduled performance-time was 22.00 but, because the audient-arrivees were not being processed into the venue at a sufficient tempo to get inside on time, the venue requested we begin late. Punctually is important for us, so instead of beginning with the playing at the announced time, our Speakers’ Circle went on first, eight minutes late at 21.58.
The Speakers’ Circle were drawn from members of The OCG & presented our request for no photography, recording and/or viddying in any format, including mobile telephones. The request was made sequentially in Catalan, Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Brazilian-Portuguese, Japanese & Indonesian; then simultaneously.
The OCG walked down from the balcony players’ area & entered the performance space at 22.08.
The Inner Circle, of 16 guitars with Curt as Section Leader;
the Outer Circle, 26 guitars with Section Leader Tony.
The OCG played for c. 30 minutes, ZUM for c. 20 minutes, The OCG whizzing from both sides of the space c. 7 minutes, ZUM for c. 10 minutes, then a final closing improv by The OCG. Overall c. 85 minutes.
During the final presentation, I saw a female-woman-ladyperson c. 35 years, on my right at 3 o’clock (stage left) locked in an ongoing laughing spasm. This only one of several interesting & informative audient-views throughout the evening.
Leaving the Circles & returning to the balcony, continuing applause prompted an encore whizz from balcony; G3 Soundscapes from Mexico City on November 30th. 2004 (a performance attended by Bill Rieflin, in town with REM) creeping up under the whizzing.
Leaving the venue c. 00.10, The OCG walkers are arriving as I type.
